World War II Weekend
April 24 - 26, 2009
This weekend was World War II Weekend at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Missouri. This was my first re-enactment with my halftrack and with the 14th Armored. Friday was very frustrating for me. My halftrack was running great at idle, but I took it for a spin to see how it running. That is when I found out that I didn't have any power while I was driving. Eventually I got it stuck away from Kenny's house, because I couldn't make it up the hill. I ended up just having the guy who was going to haul it pick it up right there. That was an ordeal in itself. When we finally got the halftrack at JB it was a struggle just to get the halftrack to the 14th's camp. That was enough for me for the day. Saturday morning I worked on getting the halftrack running. After a few hours of work I was able to get it running good. I missed the first battle, but I made it to the second one. Once most everyone was gone, except for the re-enactors, we took it for a spin around the park, which was a lot of fun. I think that was the fastest I had ever gotten the halftrack up to, probably about 30 mph. The pin that connects the louvers to the controlling rod ended up breaking or coming out and they were locked closed. That made the track run hot on Sunday, other than that nothing major happened to the track. During Sunday's battle there was a large grass fire that we had to help put out. That taught me to definitely have water and fire extinguishers on the halftrack.
